GRN Development and Growth

This page discusses how the GRN has grown, since it first started until its current topology today

GRN Network Growth

After a significant development and testing phase the NSW GRN first went to air in 1993, initially designed for mobile users and covering the three most densely populated areas of NSW (Greater Metropolitan Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong). The GRN has expanded significantly, with sites being added all the time, as well as offering enhanced (fill-in) coverage to enable portable activities.

The NSW Government has carefully maintained and upgraded the network. The network is in the process of being digitised with Agency handsets currently being upgraded.
