The network was initially launched in 2004. In its formative stage, network service was contained to mobile data users within the densely populated Greater Sydney Metropolitan Area.
Through the Government’s commitment to the network, the MDRS has been expanded beyond its original limits. The service area now encompasses the NSW Central Coast, and enhanced coverage is available using a transportable mobile data cell (cell on wheels).
The NSW MDRS continues to push the forefront of mobile data technology and anticipate the needs of its user Agencies.
Network Coverage
Geographically, the NSW MDRS dedicated Mobitex network covers the Greater Sydney Metropolitan area, extending South to the Royal National Park, West to Lithgow and North to Wyee.
It encompasses 15,000 square kilometres, and provides coverage in the major road tunnels.
Connected Agencies
The Ambulance Service of NSW was the first Government Agency to join the network, operating almost 350 terminals and logging over 30,000 events each month.
With a range of emergency service and infrastructure groups also conducting their own network trials, the number of MDRS users is expected to grow exponentially throughout the first five years of operation.
