Network Maintenance

last modified 30 Nov 2007 11:33 PM

As part of network management, a schedule of regular maintenance is required to ensure the individual components of the network are kept in good repair.

Two Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) are performed at each site annually.  A non-intrusive inspection is carried out after the bushfire season has passed, usually starting around March, in which there is no interruption to service at any site. An intrusive inspection (that requires site outages) takes place before the start of the bushfire season, usually starting in September.  Further to this, maintenance crews are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to carry out emergency repairs.

The PMIs include:

  • Testing of all back-up power supplies, radio repeaters, RF multi-couplers, antenna feeders and antennae;
  • Testing of other site equipment such as air-conditioners and alarm sensors;
  • Testing and alignment of all network infrastructure to confirm compliance with Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) regulations;
  • Testing of network redundancy features;
  • General maintenance (where appropriate) such as keeping huts clean and free of debris.

Please note, that while the network manager is responsible for all maintenance of the infrastructure,  they are not responsible for the maintenance of user's radios.
